THINGS TO DO IN CORNWALL AND DEVON

If you’re looking for things to do in Cornwall and Devon, Hayloft Courtyard Cottages are perfectly placed holiday accommodation. Situated only 20 minutes from the Tamar Bridge, ‘Cornwall’s Gateway’, and nestled conveniently between the spectacular coastline and beautiful central moors, they make an ideal touring base for family holidays, walking holidays, group breaks or simply a few days to get away from it all. Top Cornwall attractions right on your doorstep 2 mins drive: Adrenalin Quarry - one of the top things to do in Cornwall, boasts The UK’s Longest Zip Wire between stunning cliffs and a beautiful lake. New for 2010 Adrenalin Quarry now offers Coasteering. A must visit.
2 mins drive: Kartworld - go-karting up to 40mph on Cornwall’s premier family track. Karts and tracks for all ages. Big fun and literally down the road.
Golfing We get so many requests for information about golf that we’ve set up an entire package for golf breaks in Cornwall here. Looe This picture-postcard resort is only six miles away (about 15 mins drive). It’s the second largest working fishing port in Cornwall and hosts the famous, lively fish market selling the day’s haul (according to Rick Stein the best in the country). If you get up very early you might catch the fish auctions. Wander through the maze of narrow streets lined with quaint buildings & shops selling Cornish crafts. Sample the local cuisine from a good home-baked Cornish Pasty and cream teas to fresh fish & the best local produce served in the many fine restaurants. Relax on the safe, sandy beaches or choose from an array of water-based activities including mackerel and shark fishing, scuba diving and many interesting boat excursions which operate daily from the quay. (If you get a chance, definitely take the trip to land on Looe Island). Polperro A further five miles takes you to the enchanting fishing village of Polperro, steeped in a colourful history of pilchard fishing and smuggling. Stroll through the traffic-free streets of white-washed cottages that leads to the pretty harbour, dine at one of the many excellent restaurants or visit a traditional inn to sample a Cornish tipple & meet the locals. Liskeard Situated on the outskirts of Bodmin Moor and only three miles from the cottages is the ancient market town of Liskeard. One of the four original Stannary Towns, it has many interesting buildings including a Victorian guildhall & clock tower, Stuart House (where Charles I stayed in 1644) and the second largest church in Cornwall. Market days are held every Monday and Thursday and the many amenities in the town include good shopping, a leisure centre complex and many inns & restaurants. Bodmin Moor Further inland is Bodmin Moor – designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and shrouded in mystery and legend. Discover rugged granite tors, holy wells, ancient mine ruins and disused quarries. At Minions, Cornwall’s highest pub can be found on the moor.

The entire area is a haven for walkers, and for intrepid hikers there is the South West Coast Path offering miles of breathtaking unspoilt coastline.
Newquay If views of the sea aren’t enough for you, the place to hit the surf is the world famous Fistral Beach at Newquay, only 45 mins drive. Massive waves in the winter months and a huge party atmosphere during the summer; it’s a must-visit destination for all surfers and water-lovers. Plymouth & Devon A short drive across the Tamar Bridge takes you into Devon and the vibrant city of Plymouth. This historic seafaring port offers many famous heritage sites. Enjoy the views from Plymouth Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake famously played bowls as the Spanish Armada approached. Climb the 93 steps of Smeatons Tower – the old Eddystone Lighthouse – and wander through the cobbled streets of The Barbican. With great shopping, theatres, cinemas, concert venues, bars and restaurants there is plenty to see and do. National Trust The National Trust and English Heritage have many properties and gardens in the area. The famous Eden Project with its amazing domed tropical zone is only 30min drive away as are the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan. Whatever you want to do... If you fancy horse-riding, scuba diving, cycling or fishing we will be happy to help you with your arrangements. With so many attractions to choose from there is always plenty to do whatever the weather. If in doubt, just ask us while you’re here. In the meantime, visit some of these websites: Adrenalin Quarry
